Meet farmers, shop local on Campbell County’s Backroads Farm Tour

Campbell Countians can slow down, take the scenic route and discover the farms that help shape the county’s rural landscape during the county’s backroads farm tour.

The Campbell County Backroads Farm Tour is July 18, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. rain or shine. See the county as you never have before during the self-guided driving tour of agricultural operations located around the county.

“The Campbell County Backroads Farm Tour is a free, family-friendly event that showcases the people, places and traditions that make Campbell County agriculture unique,” said District Manager, Campbell County Conservation District Patti Dischar. “Travel scenic backroads and explore family farms, wineries, vineyards, flower farms, greenhouses, livestock operations, and historic landmarks. Meet local farmers and producers, learn about conservation and stewardship of the land, and discover where your local, safe and ethical food comes from.”

There will be 19 farms along the tour that include vineyards, equestrian centers, beef cattle operations, historic landmarks, conservation practices and horticultural operations. During the farm tour, visitors will also get a glimpse of the efforts of preserving the county’s farmland. Farmers will be available to share their stories and experience as well as answer any questions.

The Campbell County Conservation District, who organizes the event, highlighted the Backroad’s Farm Tour at a May Campbell County Fiscal Court meeting during the annual declaration of soil/water stewardship week

“While you’re checking out farm operations and the beautiful land in Campbell County, you can also purchase things like local eggs, produce and other goods,” said Campbell County Conservation District Board Supervisor Kirt Hill during the May fiscal court presentation.

Aside from products like eggs and produce, many stops will also have items like wine and crafts for sale, so don’t forget to bring a cooler and cash.

Event brochures are available on the conservation district’s website or you can pick one up at the Campbell County Public Libraries, the Campbell County Conservation District office at 8352 E Main St. in Alexandria, Campbell County Extension Service at 3500 Alexandria Pike in Highland Heights, and at various local stores throughout the county.
